WGBA NBC 26 | 2/10/2017
In its Friday, February 10, 2017, 10pm newscast, NBC 26 (WGBA) featured a number of stories, but one important story was noticeably absent. First, watch the report:
Noticeably absent from NBC 26’s nightly news coverage: on this day, President Donald Trump welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to the White House, where the two met to discuss ongoing relations between the U.S. and Japan.
The two leaders concluded the visit with a joint press conference, at which Abe repeatedly praised Trump, and where the men announced that their two governments would continue to pursue defense cooperation, and a new bilateral economic dialogue would be led by Vice President Mike Pence and Deputy Prime Minister Tarō Asō.
This was only the second visit to the White House by a current world leader since Trump took office, and one that by all accounts was quite productive, yet no mention of the successful get-together is made by NBC 26. (Aside from a brief clip that ran in the background .)
In choosing to feature continuing negative coverage of Trump’s executive order and ongoing protests over the appointment of Education Secretary DeVos, while ignoring positive coverage of Trump’s successful interaction with Prime Minister Abe at the White House, NBC 26 has committed bias by story selection.
